Speakers: Nathan Block, David Speaker and Parker Wilson
Nathan Block serves as an in-house counsel at BP America. Nathan has significant experience in handling matters involving environmental permitting, enforcement defense and environmental transactional due diligence. Prior to joining BP America, Nathan practiced environmental law in major law firms in Texas and environmental enforcement in the Litigation Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. He has also worked in-house for a national environmental engineering and consulting company. Nathan received his JD cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1998. While in law school, he was a member of the Legal Research Board, Board of Barristers and President of the Environmental Law Society. Nathan received his BA in Political Science from South West Texas State University in 1994.
David Speaker serves as an in-house counsel to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, L.P. (CPChem). At CPChem, David assists in with environmental and Sarbanes Oxley compliance matters and environmental policy. David also defends CPChem in any potential enforcement actions before governmental agencies, such as TCEQ or USEPA. Prior to joining CPChem, David practiced environmental enforcement in the Litigation Division of TCEQ. Mr. Speaker graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1996.
Parker Wilson serves as Managing Counsel to Valero Energy Corporation. Prior to joining Valero, Mr. Wilson practiced at the TCEQ until 2002. He has represented Valero before the TCEQ, TXOAG, EPA and DOJ in a variety of actions. Mr. Wilson graduated from St. Mary’s School of Law in 1994.
Topic: The In-House Experience: ethics, revolving door, environmental and corporate legal issues.
The speakers will discuss the life of an in-house counsel in terms of compliance, ethics issues, revolving door, practice in front of governmental agencies, and discussion of corporate and environmental law.
